Lithium exploration intensifies
Canada is well on its way to becoming a lithium supplier that will help address the foreseeable shortage of this mineral in the context of the energy transition

Some junior mining companies are very hard. Avalon Advanced Materials, which originally planned to move its Separation Rapids lithium mine project near Kenora into the lithium market for glass and ceramics, has changed direction. In 2022, it signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with LG Energy Solutions to supply lithium for batteries starting in 2025. Avalon also plans to build a lithium processing facility in Thunder Bay to supply the electric vehicle (EV) battery industry.
