The SVB situation was very unique and was triggered by the Fed's rapid increase in interest rates, which negatively impacted the value of certain shorter-term bonds held by SVB. It was not able to hold its Bond investments to maturity when they would have been worth "Par"., i.e. no losses due to the rapid increase in interest rates. Rather, as depositors withdrew funds from SVB, it had to liquidate significant portions of its bond portfolios at a loss, and that triggered everything. But it is readily apparent that it will not have far-reaching consequences outside of its unique clientele in the start-up tech world in Silicon Valley. Of course, none of this and what is going on in the banking world lately has anything whatsoever to do with AMC and its current struggles and situation.
