I think AA is betting the shorts will reduce their shorting and stock manipulations attacks on the new AMC stock because he is bailing them out via the RS and he believes the company's ability to raise more cash will be stronger. That's AA's way to protect the AMC Co at the cost of the shareholders stock positions.
He is betting that over the next 2 years AMC Co will be more profitable and the shorting parasites will fall off the back of the AMC stock making the surviving AMC shareholders whole and even profitable. If you have 2 years of patience you might do well or loose most of it if the business does not take off and become profitable.

That is my conclusion on what is going on in AA's mind.
