"Energy in focus before the war", Balluku: We will turn Albania into a net exporting country, this year we are privileged
Today

The Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Belinda Balluku, in a conference being held on energy, stated that Albania had an increased focus on energy 4 years ago, that is, before the war and Ukraine started, which brought a major crisis in this sector.

"Thank you for the invitation today and it is a pleasure to see faces in this hall that I have known for a long time, which means that we have a very close cooperation with each other, that is, the administration, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy and the private sector, obviously. Also the ambassadors, the diplomatic corps or the foreign financial institutions who have supported us and have been with us step by step throughout these four long years where the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, as well as the Albanian government, have had an increased focus on the energy sector even before the crisis started" said the minister first.

Bulluku added that the goal is to turn Albania from an importing country that is currently into a net expert country by 2029.

She added that in order to do this, private sector investments are also very important.

"As you know, for years we have launched a genuine strategy of diversification of energy resources in the Republic of Albania with a precise goal, with a pure goal in front of us which inspires us every day. We want to return Albania from an importing country to a net exporting country and this will happen by 2029 according to a clear roadmap with all the programs and projects that have already started for a long time, but on the other hand also with all the investments of the private sector which, to be honest, are already important and cannot be inconsiderable", added Balluku.

As for the past year, Balluku said that it was a challenging year not only for Albania, but for the whole world, but he added that he was pleased to note that no one from the EU or the Western Balkans was kneeling during this crisis.

"However, I would like to dwell a little on the year we left behind, a year which challenged not only Albania, but also long-established countries with important energy capacities, countries that contributed not only to their regional development, where they were, but even all over the world. The energy challenge did not give immunity to anyone and all these countries were tested, as was Albania. However, what I find with great pleasure is that no one, neither the European Union, nor the Western Balkans, nor other countries fell to their knees during this crisis, but on the contrary, all of us were motivated, inspired to find new instruments, to create alternative sources of energy and to be prepared for any other crisis we may face in the future ", she emphasized.

Then the minister informed that during the year 2022, projects have been approved which make up 300 megawatts/hour of production and in the meantime, 55 other applications are being processed that are equivalent to a capacity of 1.7 gigawatts or translated into money, in investment, 1.3 billion euros. private sector energy investments in Albania.

" With pleasure, I would say today that only within the year 2022, so far we have in the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy approved, we have given the green light to projects that make up 300 megawatts/hour of production and in the meantime 55 applications are being processed others that are equivalent to a capacity of 1.7 gigawatts or translated into money, in investment, 1.3 billion euros of energy investments of the private sector in Albania ", informed the minister.

Balluku emphasized that this year Albania holds the presidency of two very important processes, which are the presidency of the Energy Community and the Berlin Process.

"But Albania this year is privileged in terms of the energy sector. This is an important year as far as energy is concerned, as this year we are leading two very important processes. We have the presidency of the Energy Community, as a cooperation mechanism, regional and a catalyst for the integration of our energy networks with those of the European Union and the development of the sector in accordance with European directives and standards, thus offering increased guarantees to investors. On the other hand, Albania will be welcoming for the Berlin process", said Balluku. rt/abcnews.al
