Balluku: 1.3 billion euros private sector investments in energy
that Arlinda Gjonaj-03/10/2023

TIRANA, March 10/ATSH/ Deputy Prime Minister, at the same time Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku said today that the demand for private sector investments in energy during 2022 is estimated at 1.3 billion euros.

At the energy conference being held in Tirana, Deputy Prime Minister Balluku said that only within the year 2022, projects have been approved which constitute 300 megawatt-hours of production. At the same time, she informed that 55 requests for a production capacity of 1.7 gigawatts are being processed.

"Total investment is estimated at 1.3 billion euros from the private sector in Albania in energy projects", stated Balluku.

The Deputy Prime Minister further stated that the government has for years launched a real strategy of diversification of energy resources, with a precise goal, the return of Albania from an importing country to a net exporting country.

"And this will happen within the year 2029, according to an analysis of all programs and projects, but also with the calculation of private sector investments that are already important," she said.

For Deputy Prime Minister Balluku, the energy challenges that the countries faced last year did not give immunity to anyone.

"But no one, neither the EU nor the Western Balkans nor other countries knelt down, but were motivated to find new instruments and create new alternative sources", she pointed out.

For Deputy Prime Minister Balluku, Albania this year is privileged in terms of the energy sector.

"This is an important year as far as energy is concerned, since this year we are leading two very important processes. We have the presidency of the Energy Community, as a cooperation mechanism, regional and a catalyst for the integration of our energy networks with those of the European Union and the development of the sector in accordance with European directives and standards, thus offering increased guarantees to investors. On the other hand, Albania will host the Berlin Process, otherwise known as the connectivity agenda, another cooperation platform between the countries of the region and the European Union supported and led by the German government, which has proven to be a fruitful mechanism in our journey and that of our countries, generally the Western Balkans,

According to her, chairing the Berlin Process is not only an indicator of Albania's key role in the region, but above all an assessment of the work to advance processes, reforms, projects in all sectors.

"Albania is an example to follow. Albania is undoubtedly one of the countries that are often referred to both for 100% renewable energy production and for the diversification of renewable energy", said Balluku.

Due to the crisis, the deputy prime minister pointed out, many investments in the energy sector were limited.

"Albania today is a country that develops in all fields, in the field of agribusiness, in the field of tourism and in every other field of educational, health and other infrastructure and all of these undoubtedly require one of the most important elements, but the most basic which is energy. And what happens in such cases when you have to hold back because of the crisis? Then you have to become more efficient. Despite the fact that we have curbed investments due to the crisis, we have managed to reduce technical losses by 19.6%", said Balluku.

At the Energy Conference, Minister Belinda Balluku said that this year is very important for Albania in this sector.

The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy emphasized that our country has a leading role in two very important processes related to the energy sector.

Balluku said that the presidency of the Energy Community and the Berlin Process in Tirana make our country a key country in the region, adding that the most famous foreign investors have an increased interest and confidence in Albania.

"1.3 billion euro energy investments of the private sector in Albania. Albania this year is privileged as far as energy is concerned, since this year we hold the presidency of two very important processes, we have the presidency of the Energy Community, a regional cooperation mechanism for the integration of our energy networks with those of the European Union and the development of the sector in accordance with European directives and standards. On the other hand, Albania will host the Berlin Process, otherwise known as the connectivity agenda, another cooperation platform between the countries of the region and the EU.

Presiding over the Berlin process is not only an indicator of Albania's key role in the region, but also an appreciation of our work to advance projects in all sectors. Albania is an example to be taken, one of the countries that is often referred to for 100% renewable energy production as well as for the diversification of this energy. But, on the other hand, we have not neglected broadcasting either, our investments for the broadcasting operator are important. Today I am happy to say that our big project with North Macedonia for the transmission line is already at the same pace with the Macedonian side, which makes us hopeful that we will finish it in the specified time.

In the month of May, after two years, we will have the results of a very important auction, the first wind, hybrid auction in the Republic of Albania, where 16 international companies participated, and this large enterprise will have a result. For the energy sector, we see the trust and effort of foreign investors, with important names in the market, already showing for Albania", stated Balluku./ tvklan.al
