I just like my movies to make sense. They can be silly, if they are meant to be silly.
The Jennifer Connelly character was just an offhand comment by Goose in one scene. They decided that because Kelly McGillis didn't age well, they weren't going to use her again. You should be offended or something.
The fact that they had Goose's kid wearing the same glasses and shirt as his father who died some 20 years earlier was also silly. They were counting on people to like the nostalgia.
Even throwing Val Kilmer in there seemed forced.

Just my opinion, of course.
