It was not a heart valve. It was a little bit of goo from KBLB’s silks molded in the shape of a heart valve. Not even a prototype. Just a mock-up.

How can we tell? First, the uniformity of the mock-up. It all looked the same density, while actual heart valves have stronger and weaker parts. Next, there was no attachment structure that is needed to ensure the valve stays in place. No papers have been published on folding fatigue in spider silk films. Finally, no big medical company has announced a partnership with KBLB to develop a chimeric heart valve.
