I think we could see a hyperinflationary dollar event come along if all the BRICS countries go off the dollar and onto their own currency. Those countries aren't small or insignificant enough not to count in a very big way. Who knows how many other countries might choose to follow? It may be quite a few.

As Pierre said those other countries may still need to trade with dollars when dealing with the U.S., but not amongst themselves. That should cripple the dollar hegemony and severely hamper the U.S. printing unlimited fiat dollars once the alternative is up and running.

IMO the dollar as the reserve currency is no longer relevant any longer.
