Google results for: Can a Tesla coil power a town?

No. About the only electric appliance or equipment or apparatus that can operate directly from the output of a Tesla coil is lighting using ionized gas; neon lighting, fluorescent tube lighting, and MAYBE some other vapor or gas lamps.

Tesla coils produce AC at a high frequency that is not useful. Second, the Tesla coil can't direct power to where it is needed, so most of the power will radiate into space. Third, there is no way to bill customers for their use of the received energy.

Why don't we use the Tesla coil to send electricity wirelessly present day?

Even if [relatively inefficient] Tesla coils were used in some way to provide wireless power, the money-people (financiers) didn’t like the idea that there would be no way to meter the power and make money from it. And, if it were implemented, the RF fields would be insanely strong. Today, people are even up tight about the billion-times weaker RF fields from cell phones.
