In Albania, they expect an increase in China's influence on the economy
February 6, 2023

?The concern related to the rebalancing of the world economy
Both experts see Beijing's attempt to expand into some key sectors of the Balkan countries as worrying in terms of rebalancing the world economy.

"Unlike Serbia, Montenegro or other countries in the region, in Albania we have not had an expansion of Chinese capital, state or private... However, Chinese investments have created concerns in the countries where they have penetrated, as they have created problems in the fiscal sustainability of beneficiary countries, and as a result have deepened their dependence on China. This has increased China's access to the raw material resources of the debtor countries. In the context of the reformation of the world supply chain, which is happening after the pandemic and currently the war in Ukraine, of course these developments raise concerns about the rebalancing of the world economy", says Xhepa.

"The Balkans, as a central part of South-Eastern Europe, is coveted both by empires once - and by China today. China projects the construction of an organic structure of an economic-technological and industrial dependency here," says Hoti.

With the entry into force of the agreement on free movement, citizens of Albania will be able to stay visa-free in China for up to 180 days.

Chinese citizens have had the opportunity to enter Albania with tourist visas since 2019.

According to the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs in Albania, the free movement agreement will serve to strengthen relations between the two countries.

Earlier, the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, stated that his country expects more investments from China, while Chinese investors have shown interest in investments in energy and infrastructure.
