Lorkowski: Raising the energy exchange in Albania, possible within a few weeks

TIRANA, January 31 /ATSH - I. Vata/ The Director of the Secretariat of the Energy Community, Artur Lorkowski stated today that Albania has made a lot of progress as far as the Distribution System Operator is concerned.

After the meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, at the joint press conference, the Director of the Secretariat of the Energy Community, Artur Lorkowski, evaluated the work of Albania in relation to energy.

He said that, "at today's meeting I had the opportunity to discuss both Albania's Presidency of the Energy Community and specific issues of the country of essential importance for the integrated development of energy markets".

"I thanked the minister for starting the preparations for Albania's Presidency of the Energy Community. I think that a very ambitious year awaits us for the work ahead and I want to say that the Energy Community and the Energy Secretariat should be more often present in this country", he said.

"We discussed the organization of the informal Ministerial Council in Albania and then the process that would lead us to the finalization of Albania's Presidency in the energy community in December 2023, with a set of legal decisions that have been adopted to advance the progress of Energy Community", emphasized Lorkowski.

Next, the Director of the Secretariat of the Energy Community, Artur Lorkowski, said that important issues related to regional cooperation were discussed.

"To begin with, there was the issue of implementing last year's decision on the targets set until 2030 for renewable energies, for reducing carbon emissions and energy licenses. We discussed how we can advance the process of implementing these targets, eg by pushing forward the discussion on the regional carbon pricing model for the Energy Community member countries. I hope we can reach a political decision regarding this in 2023 in support and leadership of Albania. In this aspect, the very important project for guarantees of origin for renewable energies was also discussed, and we believe that this support, based on the market for renewable energies, can be essential support, not only for investors,

Lorkowski added that another issue of the talks was the establishment of the energy market in Albania and the perspective of having the energy exchange and the necessary steps to make this project successful for Albania and for regional cooperation were discussed.

"We believe that, with the support of the Secretariat, the establishment of the energy exchange in Albania will be possible within a few weeks and we welcome and applaud this development", he emphasized.

Lorkowski said that, "tomorrow I will have the opportunity to meet the members of the Parliament and inform about the implementation of EU legislation within the Energy Community in Albania and what I will express is gratitude for the progress made by Albania , which belongs to the Distribution System Operator. It was an impressive job."
