All that is true, but if the product has a potential, then I believe that its success is dependant on the people who are selling it. Even a weak product under the right people can be made successsful. On the other hand, the best idea is wasted if it is not persued properly.
IMO . . . poor economy, lack of funding, no track-record, etc, are all valid excuses, but for the right people they are just small speed-bumps on the way to success.
I think that we are now passing those last few speed-bumps!
