Renewable energy/ Rama: Regional master plan and investment roadmap, we hope for Norway's support
6 hours ago

Prime Minister Edi Rama, the President of Serbia, the Prime Minister of North Macedonia, the Prime Minister of Montenegro, the Deputy Minister of Energy in Norway and the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina have appeared in a joint press conference after the discussions in the panel organized on "Investment opportunities in renewable energy in the Western Balkans" and the cooperation of the countries of the region for energy security.

As he considered a necessary meeting and a very important day, Prime Minister Edi Rama hopes for the continuation of the conversation while stating that the Norwegian government will support the efforts of the region for the conception of a master plan and an investment guide.

"It was a great opportunity and a really necessary meeting in these times of war, when bombs and wounds hit somewhere in Ukraine, but where the energy crisis plus war inflation have hit everywhere in Europe, and beyond, including our countries.

I have no doubt that in these difficult times, what we said before when we started the Open Balkans and when we called for a wider regional cooperation, becomes more and more obvious, we need to regionalize our markets and how it comes to energy, we need to go beyond our borders because otherwise, we still remain small markets. What we need and need, if treated in isolation can be much more expensive and not only that.

I also believe that by acting at the regional level, as far as the energy market is concerned, we can have an easier access to financing and likewise, we can have a much stronger partnership in the private sector. Today was a really important day and I am grateful to the Norwegian government and the Serbian government here for making it possible to start this conversation with practically the best people and the best and most knowledgeable structures in Europe, which are the Norwegians.

I strongly hope that this conversation will continue and that we will have our Norwegian partners and friends with us to support our efforts, to conceive a regional master plan and an investment roadmap. I would not like to take up more of anyone's time and I want to conclude by thanking the organizers once again for this opportunity. I also look forward to this dialogue, which has already started on a good footing, to deepen ", said Rama.

President Aleksandar Vucic has warned of difficult reforms for Serbia. Vucic announced that 17-32 billion euros will be invested in the coming years so that Serbian citizens have sufficient electricity.

“As you know, we have worked with the Norwegians and received recommendations on what we can do as Serbia for priorities and it is a large level of investment for energy. It is a large level of investments that need to be made, it could be investments from 17-32 billion euros for the next few years so that we can survive and have enough gas and electricity. And this will have an effect and will be a new reason for growth because this is the opportunity, apart from the problems we have, to have a stable regional market and help each other. If we work together to secure the future. This issue is not important for this winter but for all future winters. When we talk about Serbia, we will have difficult reforms in our public enterprises. We will need a more difficult reform in the energy sector, in the financial and fiscal sector because we have to change ourselves to ensure a better future. All our countries have not had investments in energy. Only one gas pipeline has been built, but it is not enough", Vucic said.

The Prime Minister of Montenegro, Dritan Abazovic, emphasized the construction of new plants, mainly solar plants, and wind energy plants. Abazovic also focused on the need for the construction of important energy facilities, as according to him it would soften the shocks faced by Montenegro.

" The countries of the Western Balkans are open to the experiences coming from the Scandinavian countries. We talked about renewable energy and green energy which is important for Montenegro. We have a kind of imbalance between the seasons when it comes to importing electricity. This The concept is unacceptable to us. The idea is to build new plants. The idea is to build solar plants, wind power plants and a liquefied natural gas plant.

We want to have much more important energy facilities to cushion the shocks we have encountered. I believe that we are all committed to a common objective, to work together. Everyone's expectation is to reduce energy dependence and build energy facilities taking advantage of renewable energy ," Abazovic said.

The need for more energy was also expressed by the Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Dimitar Kovacevski. The latter stated that only through cooperation will crises be overcome and more resistant energy systems will be built in the region.

“The organization of this conference is important for the entire region, in these times when this is the most important issue being discussed in Europe and the region, for the need for more energy. We had the opportunity to talk to the Norwegian investors and present the strategic objectives and talk about the possibilities of providing renewable energy. Opportunity to exploit the opportunity for green energy as an opportunity to develop the region as an energy powerhouse. During the last 3 years, we have seen misunderstandings, but in a recent period, especially during the last 2 years, the region has started to be a region of cooperation, of good neighborly relations. Cooperation is the only way to overcome crises and build a more resilient energy system in the region that will attract state investments.A single country cannot solve this problem. This opportunity shows us that we can take advantage of this global crisis. The government's focus is energy and food production. We talked about mitigating the consequences of the crisis and we took medium and long-term measures ," he said.
