It must be such a simple, not to mention pathetic, way of thinking to be able to neatly divide a large heterogenous population into the "left" and the "right".

Certainly nuance doesn't exist, one couldn't be, say, fiscally conservative but liberal on social issues, like abortion.

Back in the 1960's my father used to say he was a Republican because he believed they were better for the economy and didn't start unnecessary wars.

Well, that certainly turned out to be not the case, as they've run up huge deficits and unnecessarily invaded Iraq, among other places.

All that Republicans stand for now are scare tactics. I can't think of anything else, so maybe remind us of some specific policy proposals by Republicans running in the midterms that you like.
