Canada Silver Cobalt Works aka CCW, the little company based in a Vancouver suburb that has its fingers in many pies, made an announcement regarding the processing of two tons of high grade silver tailings from its Castle and Beaver mines in the Cobalt camp in Ontario. In the past few years the company has upgraded a processing plant and built a lab in Cobalt, and these will be used to produce, utilizing the company's proprietary Re-2Ox process, both silver dore and a sulphide concentrate that will be tested for a variety of metals such as nickel, cobalt, copper, and so on.

It is still far too early to evaluate whether this will eventually generate a profit.

B2Gold aka BTO announced they have completed the acquisition of Oklo Resources. This will be a useful bolt-on for what has become BTO's core gold mining complex at Fekola in Mali. These new properties already have resources of over 600k oz Au, which can be expected to grow substantially as BTO ramps up drilling. We can also expect a revised mine plan for the entire Fekola complex including the new properties in the coming months.

Minera IRL aka MIRL continued its recent charm offensive with yet another minor PR, this one announcing that gold production from its Corihuarmi mine in Peru had increased slightly for the second consecutive month. Once again we get no word on the two issues that really matter, resolving the huge looming debt or replacing the overpaid CEO who hires his unqualified friends and family.

To anyone who has followed Northern Shield Resources aka NRN over the years, the news that they have optioned a new gold project in Newfoundland is worrying. Why? This management group has a history of acquiring a prospect, trumpeting its possibilities, exploring it while releasing hopeful PRs, and then eventually just stopping mentioning it any more. Remember Shot Rock? Huckleberry? Sequoi? And so on...

Does this new property mean they have realized the exploration programme at their current fave, Root & Cellar, is starting to peter out without finding anything significant?

We won't know the answer for a while, but in the meantime we can contemplate the new property called Zuleika, which is going to be explored for sediment-hosted orogenic gold and epithermal-type gold mineralization. It is located in the Dover-Hermitage Bay Fault Zone, which they take pains to point out is parallel to the Dog Bay line that hosts NFG's Queensway deposit (which seems a tenuous connection to me). They also mention a nickel anomaly on the property in a setting that does not normally host these types of deposits. On the positive side, probably, the property is large, 125 sq km, so should allow them to mess around for a while. Well, maybe not so positive after all...

TUO, GOT, NRN

Teuton Resources aka TUO released an update regarding their JV with Optimum Ventures on the Harry PM prospect in BC's Golden Triangle. Optimum can earn up to 80% of the property and has been busy of late. They completed an IP survey which was able to refine existing targets as well as generating new ones, and have also been taking samples from those prospects, with sample assays expected imminently. Also imminent is the start of a drill programme. Harry is lower elevation so they should be able to get in a good number of holes before winters descends.

Also from the Golden Triangle, we get another hopeful but frustrating PR from Goliath Resources aka GOT regarding the ongoing drill campaign on the Surebet zone of their Golddigger Au/Ag prospect.

Why hopeful? Once again we hear about multiple long intercepts of what appear to be good mineralization, this time including lots of pretty pictures of visible gold. The mineralized area now covers 5.25 sq km and remains open in multiple directions. As well, they have identified a new nearby prospect they call Goldswarm which will be followed up next year, plus indications of a potential porphyry feeder zone.

Why frustrating? Even though this drill campaign has been going on for more than 3 1/2 months, we still get no assays, or eve an indication of when they might arrive from the labs.

Is it hubris to wonder whether someone from Northern Shield Resources aka NRN is reading these little pieces I am posting? Yesterday, while commenting that their announcement that they have acquired a new prospect in Newfoundland might mean that they are about to move on from exploring their current number one prospect, Root & Cellar, to the Next Big Thing, as they have done multiple times in the past. Today, we get a very short PR containing a picture of some visible gold found in a boulder at Root & Cellar. Visible gold may or may not be significant, meaning the only real news in this NR was the sentence saying that permits for additional drill pads had been submitted.
