AMD's record unit marketshare last quarter shows that the market is not shifting back to Intel quite the reverse whilst P4 makes up the majority of Intel's product line. However I do get your general points notwithstanding this factual error. Yes Intel is trying to price AMD out of the game but it won't work over the short/medium term as they will now have high-margin K10 quads coming that will keep their asps up and could subsidise high-volume parts and squeeze Intel's margins from above.

This tick-tock strategy however may work if Nehalem does a clean kill on 45nm 6MB K10 and AMD has no other product to replace it. They do have another core coming as stated by Richard so it's a question of when that comes online and how capable it is. If Intel doesn't kill AMD it will be much leaner and stronger and Intel's margins would have gone to hell in the process creating a true duopoly out of cuthroat competition so it's a very dangerous game Intel is playing wink. Finally if that 18-wheeler meets this ATV it's toast wink.
