From an article I read:
The shortage of Adderall is the biggest threat to public health in the United States. The drug is sold under several trade names, including Ritalin , and is sold in both pharmacies and health clinics. The demand for Adderall is expected to increase to a critical point in 2021. Its shortage will cause many people to become ill.

Another reason for the shortage is because of FDA constraints, they limit the amount of API to each Pharma, like Elite, it's most difficult when you have a Pharma like Lannett who can't (sell there way out of a wet paper bag).
It looks like they almost stopped selling XR in the middle of a shortage wave. What ? they don't know there may be a shortage in Michigan or Milwaukee, or where ever and move in to take up the shortage, Guess they didn't get that phone call,...
