This story is not about Chile getting all touchy-feely buddy-buddy with SQM (or any lithium miner in Chile) making them more environmentally inclusive/legal or proving to the world Chile is now mucho user-friendly to struggling lithium brine miners like NewCo/MSB, Lithium Chile Inc, SIMCO, MGX or Wealth Minerals Limited.

This is a story about a slippery negotiated court settlement whittled down to a pleaded-out 6 environmental violations totaling "in theory" US$115,000,000 for SQM who has been stonewalling & shafting Chile in classic well-choreographed exquisite Julio Ponce legal maneuvers over 52 environmental violations since November of 2016 which could have cost SQM US$$46,603,000 (Total fines US$115,000,000 minus paid since 2013 US$74,703,000) in fines but are now being brilliantly reduced by SQM super-high-powered attorneys down to US$19,000,000 for a measly six violations instead of 52 violations if the court had been able "to fully throw the book" at SQM.

This $19,000,000 is being cleverly earmarked as money to be spent on the nebulous undefined Mother Nature's environment, but it is simply a "white-washed" financial vehicle to add modern fast-evaporation mechanical equipment onsite to reduce SQM's water usage of 1644 liters per second in 2022 down to 822 liters per second in 2027 in order to qualify as a "good white neighbor" just before their lease with CORFO runs out in 2030 at which time they will say to CORFO "adios modernfocker, we sucked out all the lithium we actually wanted from you slimeballs in Atacama and now we will move on to our next privately owned lithium mine... probably in the Maricunga neighborhood". SQM will politely graciously make available the tabulated results to any indian/farmer/Eco-terrorist/tree-hugger in Atacama that might want to look at the written test reports starting in a few years.

Chile isn't doing any favors to us lithium miners. The Chilean Lithium mafia is simply PR white-washing this court-approved fine today to make it look like SQM is graciously giving something back to the poor downtrodden local community... and that is one big laugh. Remember, Julio Ponce has never lost and will never will lose in a Chilean court. He is invincible.
