It just blows my mind that he could have negotiated a settlement and have it all be over last week, but he didn't. After seeing the -75% drop and investor frustration, and knowing it will take months and months to resolve the appeal, he still didn't work out a deal.

And it blows my mind even more that some in here are applauding that decision, as though a few million shares would impact your investment any.

The drop in share price from having more shares would be instantly offset by the increase in price from having the appeal resolved and being able to proceed with everything else. I understand those that don't want to reward Calasse, but I can't think of a sound business reason why a settlement shouldn't be reached. Even Sharp's original offer of 10M seems pretty minor if it cleared all obstacles to the merger.
