I also know of others who have tried to slap the ask numerous times that have gotten undercut and filled lower with 5 and even 6 digit trades.

How? Well it is not a retail MM that is for sure, that is an algo doing that.

Why? I can only speculate that it is being done to mess with technical indicators and from all accounts to assist in loading more shares. Any MM is not making much money here by "trading" since the volume is too low and has been plenty of accumulation happening. So I think these fills are effecting RSI/Accumulation/MACD as well as other indications that are price sensitive
