Well, it looks like I'm not getting...

the cable modem. It turns out that I'm getting DSL from SBC/Ameritech. Seems they now offer it in my area. In fact, they said I was very close to their new station, thus I would get the full 1.5 Mbps download speed, but they probably tell everybody that. lol

Anyway, What drove that was I went to figure out how I was going to get the cable ran up to my office. Wasn't going to be easy. Got to talking with my neighbor who said he remembered getting something in the mail about DSL being offered in our area. So, I called Ameritech and sure enough.

Here's the rub though. The guy said they would ship out the modem (which is free, as well as waive the sign on fees) to me and all I have to do is install some software. He said the software is where I create my login and password, and use to sign on. I told him I didn't want to have to install any software because of all the crap it would put on my system etc. He didn't know any other way to do it. So, I guess I will try to contact customer service went I get the hardware, and see if they can just create my login and password over the phone, give me any other info that I'll need, and then I'll type it in manually.

Also, $26.95/month for one year (which requires me to sign a one year contract just like a cell phone). That is much cheaper than cable modem which was going to be $44.95/month, although there was not contract.
