The 144,000 were never referred to in any text not even in the apocrapha as the elect. Most argument is whether the elect is the church or the nation of Israel. The word elect or Eklektos from the ancient greek root is used eight times in the New Testament but 24 times in the original manuscript. It is used three times in Matthew 24, three times in Mark 13, once in Luke 18:7 and once in Romans 8:33
The word Eklektos means literally elect/chosen so the two words were intermingled throughout the bible during the greek interpretation from the original aramaic/Hebrew.
The elect is the church. If you read the above passages you'll see that it's the only way it can be.
