2 more PGA Tour players & top amateur joining LIV Golf
Sean Keeley - Yesterday 4:00 PM

It remains to be seen whether or not the PGA Tour will stick to its guns when it comes to golfers who join the LIV Golf series, but two more of its players have decided to take the chance and play for the Saudi-backed league. They’ll also be joined by one of the top amateur golfers coming out of college as Matthew Wolff, Carlos Ortiz, and Eugenio Chacarra round out the 48-man field at Pumpkin Ridge this week.

Wolff is the most prominent name in the bunch. Currently ranked No. 77 in the world, the 23-year-old was once considered a future star on the PGA Tour. However, since finishing T2 in the 2020 U.S. Open, Wolff has only finished in the top 10 of a PGA Tour event twice.

Ortiz, who is currently ranked No. 119 in the world, has also struggled in recent months, missing eight cuts in 19 events this season and lacking any top 30 finishes in 2022.

Chacarra, the No. 2-ranked amateur in the world, caught the golf world attention’s with his playoff loss in the NCAA Championship in May. He told Hugo Costa that his LIV Golf recruitment happened quickly and he committed for two years with the opportunity to qualify for a third depending on how well he plays. While he stopped short of saying how much he was getting, he said that it will provide “a radical change of life for me and my future family.”

These golfers will be joining a few other newbies in LIV Golf’s second event next week in Portland, including Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Reed, and Brooks Koepka
