When Hughes Network Systems delivers its new electronically steered antenna (ESA) for connectivity via the OneWeb low earth orbit satellite constellation Gogo will be the only buyer for the business aviation market. The companies announced an exclusivity deal for the kit as part of a 10-year purchase agreement.


The deal also includes a commitment from Gogo to purchase $170 million in hardware and support services over the first seven years of the deal. Purchases are expected to begin from the end of 2024, based on “completion of a project milestone” (likely related to terminal certification).

During that seven-year period, “Hughes may not sell substantially similar equipment to other purchasers in Gogo BA’s primary target market.” The overall purchase agreement term is 10 years.

Speaking to the deal, OneWeb VP Mobility Ben Griffin expressed optimism, highlighting “the commitment that Gogo have to the market, and how much they’re willing to invest in it.”
