Maybe the cops feared being lynched by the Justice System afterward if the school shooting perpetrator turns out to be a member of our society's protected class, based on his religion or ethnicity.

I woudn't want to be walking in Derek Chauvin's shoes right now, and I doubt any of these officers would either.
