Eric has a lot of connections, and already has an established company that can take things from what ever they were left at. If this was only a "joint-venture" type of thing and not a complete acquisition, GT and their management would have not been reporting back to Eric for the last 10 months. I believe the word "acquisition" doesn't literally mean taking over the company, but taking over the assets and employment of previous employees, which is what happened here, so I think it is actually an acquisition.
