I have NO empathy for the parents who said
I'll go in, or we should just go in....and then didn't
I know one thing, if my kid had been in there
they would NOT have stopped me from going in
and I would've put down that liberally mentally wrecked thing
without any hesitation or guilt
my actions would have been calm and decisive and focused
a thing like that....unless it's in a full blown psychotic break
will back down even from an unarmed charging bull
and in a full blown psychotic break, you just have to be more
determined to stop it.
I say this from having done it against an armed assailant
with a family held hostage in 1976 and I was unarmed
A friend of mine and I were headed to his basement apt
and we heard the Pastor's wife and two girls scream.
I made a fast assessment.
I went in before the cops even got there, put one hell of an
impact on the doer
when I kicked the seriously solid door in so hard, it sprung the lock
and the frame flexed who literally flew thru the air and was spun around
so he slammed into the opposite wall 12 feet away
the edge of the door hit him square between the shoulder blades
and it spun him completely around
It was a large entry room where the Pastor had made his office
the perp had stepped away from the pastor and was screaming nonsense waving his knife
with his back to the door
a friend was with me and I had him set to go in the back
when I went in and get the girls and wife out
he lived in the basement apt of the house as his parents owned it
the pastor's family rented the upstairs house
the perp's back hit that wall clean over the Pastor's desk and came down 3 feet to the side of the pastor
and with NO hesitation...ZERO...like he was on PCP or something
he came at me leaping over the desk
I went out the door with him behind me...yes I turned and ran
not out of fear
but I was sure he couldn't catch me AND it was more important
to get him after me and out of the house
My friend went in the back entrance locking the door behind him
I had handed him a spare 1/2 axe I had to defend himself
just in case and had to prep him how to hold it and where
to hit the perp
I told him the perp would come at his torso or head, I said
drop down and cut his legs out from under him
and I'd be there by then and would take him out
my friend then, because that dead bolt locked solid old door and frame had
actually flexed when I hit it so hard, was able to close and lock it
the perp followed me out , stopped when it couldn't catch me immediately
and I turned to face it just in case it COULD catch me, ready for the coming attack
sanity was returning to the perp and it stopped when I faced it
I was still unarmed but it saw no fear
it still had that big Buck Knife.....then it ran back to the NOW locked door
it looked back and then saw me coming back at it....
the pastor' wife had called the cops when perp first came in
As I started back at it, cops showed up, looked at the situation
I yelled and pointed KNIFE!!! They saw it, he dropped the knife
and ran and they caught him.
Here's the kicker, the Pastor berated me for what I did
God was going to protect him and resolve the dilemma
His wife was grateful as hell...
He literally ranted at me quoting the King Jame's Bible
and was doing it in front of one of the cops
who had the perp in their car and had come to get statements
when he stopped ranting.....
the one cop knew me....looked at the pastor and said
Did you ever stop to think that God sent him to help?
*crickets* for a moment....
then more yammering
a couple weeks later, I'm walking to see my friend again
and not 30 feet around the corner in the yard of that house
from the same front door
The wife and daughters screamed at the top of their lungs
I charged around the corner, the two girls were clutching their mother's legs and screaming
mother was screaming all wide eyed
I stopped 10 away seeing nothing and yelled WHAT?!?!?
the mother pointed to a snake
I stomped the snake's head and killed it without hesitation..
Pastor came out as he'd heard the screaming
asked what happened, told him
and then he started berating me for killing a garden snake
In disgust
I waved my hand at him (like go away), said I reacted without
thinking after what had just happened a couple weeks before
more berating,
In disgust I walked away. But the wife and little girls had relief and tears on their faces
See here's the thing
when they need you....you're ok...and appreciated
just like a gun
but when they don't....out comes the condemnation, the ideology, and the bullshit.
