30 days of searching for oil in the Jaca well, still no relevant information

It was on April 25, 2022, that Shell and Galp began drilling oil block number 6 in the exclusive economic zone of São Tomé and Príncipe. Named “Jaca” well, it is the first to be drilled in national territorial waters.

Fausto Vera Cruz, technical director of the National Petroleum Agency, told Téla Nón that 30 days after the start of drilling, there is still no relevant information.

«The National Petroleum Agency as a regulatory body is monitoring the activities, it has a representative there. Every day we have access to the report they produce….Of course it is at the beginning, they have not yet reached the horizons that are defined, so we still do not have very relevant information», stated the technical director of the National Petroleum Agency.

According to Fausto Vera Cruz, the partner companies of the National Petroleum Agency, namely Shell and Galp, entered the oil prospecting project in block 6, based on seismic studies and other data that were collected over the years.

Data that indicate a high probability of the existence of hydrocarbons in the Jaca well.

The drilling process of the block located in ultra-deep waters, about 2 kilometers deep, continues. The Technical Director of the National Petroleum Agency confessed that expectations are high within the entire Sao Tome society.
