Satan's Lies

"Be serious! Be alert! Your adversary the Devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour. Resist him and be firm in the faith..." ~ 1 Peter 5:8-9

Any time the enemy is talking, he’s lying. Because you are precious to the one he hates the most, he wants to hurt you so he can hurt the One who loves you. You’ve gotta know the truth so you can discern the lies. Here are four common lies of the enemy we need to recognize, so we can shine light on the truth:

1. You Have Something to Prove

This is the lie of pride. The lie that says you have to look out for yourself or no one else will. Pride is a barrier to all spiritual progress. The reason we end up thirsty for validation is because we walk the streets of this world hungry for God. The truth is, you don’t need to look out for yourself because you have the God of Heaven and Earth looking out for you! When you have validation from God, you don’t need it from yourself or anyone else.

2. God Doesn’t Care About You

This is the lie of pain. We will all face situations in life that we don’t know how to handle. We don’t know what theological drawer to put it in. Why would God allow this? In those times, it can be so tempting to feel like God has left you and that he doesn’t care about you, but the truth is He is madly in love with you. When things happen that you can’t make sense of, hang on to the things that you can make sense of. God loves you, He sees, and He cares. Choose to doubt your doubts and believe your beliefs.

3. You Won’t Make it Through This

This the lie of anxiety. All our worries and anxieties stem from fear of the future. I’ve heard it said that “Worrying is to pay for tomorrow’s frustration with today’s peace.” When you are facing these peace-robbing thoughts, remind yourself of this: What I am worrying about probably won’t happen, but even if it does, God will carry me through.

4. You Can Relax Now

This is the lie of prosperity. Verse 10 of 1 Peter 6 says he will restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish. He will. The more he does for you, the more he can do through you, but you have to remember that you’re never more vulnerable than in victory. So when you find yourself in a season of blessing, don’t let off the gas. Press in, worship harder, show up, seek Him. Bless God in bad times and good times.

And if there are still any doubts remaining, here is the trump card: Romans 16:20 assures us that the God of peace will soon crush Satan under foot. There is victory in Jesus' name.
