“At this point it’s fair to say the recent selling in stocks has mostly detached from fundamental reality,” wrote Tom Essaye of The Sevens Report. “Fundamentals have not deteriorated nearly that much.”
Essaye added that the selling feel “mechanical” at this point. In other words, the market declines are triggering sell orders from algorithmic trading programs, which are subsequently pushing stocks down even more.
