Would anyone be kind enough to explain who or what CEDE & Co is please?

The below is taken from page 2 of the lawyers letter

"Our review of the Company’s current share ledger, which is
maintained by an SEC-registered transfer agent, Empire Stock Transfer, did not reveal any shareholders with more than 5% of its common shares other than CEDE & Co., which holds over 88% of the total issued and outstanding".
