Nothing other than cost. US made supertankers cost about $100 million. Japan will make them for $37 million. Which would buy? Becasue of that, it's cheaper to ship the oil to Japan, and then ship oil that would go to Japan to the US. Don't ever assume that things on this planet ever make sense. <ng/g>
