This clinical trial for oral metformin as a treatment for Stargardt disease is a perfect example of bench-to-bedside collaboration between my lab Mitra Farnoodian Francesca Barone Ruchi Sharma in my group testing metformin on patient iPSC-RPE and animal models, and my clinician colleague Brian Brooks taking the drug to patients.

We will soon be launching a safety and feasibility trial for AMD with metformin eye drops, a collaboration with Richard Garr at Curative Biotech.
