Doxycycline Hyclate (Elite's new approval) & Doxycycline Monohydrate.

Hyclate is substantially (multiples) less expensive. If you fail to specify on a handwritten Rx, the pharmacist will automatically fill with hyclate. If you accidentally click the monohydrate form when sending electronic Rx, the pharmacist will usually call and ask for a verbal order to substitute with hyclate. There's not much difference that I know of. If I recall, the more expensive version is supposed to have fewer G.I. side effects, but like I said, in my experience, the hyclate version is very well tolerated by most people. Perhaps teen boys with bad acne and sensitive tummies would prefer the more gentle monohydrate version?
