Carbon Valley - A Clean Carbon Initiative
What's Happening In The Carbon Valley?

Over the last few months, a lot of innovation took place within the coal-rich region of northeastern Wyoming. See what you missed!
Advancing The Science of Carbon Capture and Storage
Groundbreaking scientific studies are happening right here in Northeastern Wyoming’s “Carbon Valley.” The Wyoming CarbonSAFE project, led by The University of Wyoming School of Energy Resources (SER), in collaboration with Basin Electric Power Cooperative, is one of 13 original carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) project sites in the U.S. The drilling of a second deep test well used for site characterization began in early January and is nearing completion. The objective of this project is to demonstrate safe and secure geologic CO2 storage, a process to eventually commercialize large-scale subsurface storage near Dry Fork Station.

Nearing Completion: The Wyoming Innovation Center

After breaking ground last June and with major progress currently underway, the nearly 10-acre Wyoming Innovation Center (WyIC) site is slated for completion in late spring! The center will include test, lab and office spaces and will be home to companies and researchers developing commodities like asphalt, graphene, graphite, agricultural char, carbon fiber and more – using coal and coal byproducts.
