I never understood averaging down. Consider that all profits are fungible. By that I mean: My portfolio doesn’t care where the profit (legally) comes from; only that happens.

Before I purchase more of a ticker I currently own at a loss, I consider whether, knowing what I know now, would I take an opening position, or are there other more attractive tickers with greater potential?

If I can honestly say that that this is the best of the litter, then I would buy more. However, if I am buying just to make myself feel better by owning twice as many shares at less of a loss per share, then; no thanks !.
