The government doesn't control fuel production, part of the free markets we cheer about when it suits our cause. Individual companies will pump more as the price hits levels that make it worth their while, the cost of US production is significantly higher that some countries. The government could release more from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to cushion prices but that is not what the SPR is intended for even though it has been used for such reasons in the past. Sounds like a good time to lobby OPEC for increased production but they like the higher prices too and are unlikely to make significant changes.

When the supply is tight prices go up unless demand is reduced enough to offset it. I find it funny that everyone will shout for more production but will scoff at the idea of reducing their consumption, driving less. That would be inconvenient and require some personal sacrifice, something Americans have shown an inability to conceive of in recent years.

On the bright side SHWZ will see little if any impact from recent global events and their growth will continue as projected. The money made from SHWZ in the coming months and a little less driving will more than compensate for any increase in fuel prices.

Good times ahead,

Knife
