Well I guess the same could be said about iPhones using your logic.

Do we not need to upgrade our phones almost annually? Yes!
Does that mean the previous tech or equipment was junk? No!

They found a way to make the tech/equipment more efficient thus ultimately resulting in higher revenues! IT'S CALLED AN UPGRADE!
