Rep. Sharon Beasley-Teague is a very professional person. Straight to the point, especially on XeChem. I asked her what prompted the Commendation, what does it mean for the company, and what did she hope to accomplish by doing the commendation.
She stated to me that there are very few companies IN THE WORLD that even care about the suffering of "her" people. Very few companies spend the research dollars, hire the qualified personnel, or show an interest in the diseases that afflict the Afircan / African-American people. She stated, that after her attendance at the Launch in July she has such great hopes and excitement surrounding the drug and the Company.
The commendation is to recognize the Company's desire to devote so much time, effort and research dollars to helping "her" people. She stated that the President of Nigeria is passionate about XeChem, Nicosan and getting the drug to market and distribution.
She believes she has found (and finds it hard to believe)a company that TRULY wants to help those suffering from SCD ( and after her contact with the company personnel, believes they have a greater cause than to make money), and the commendation is to recognize that "Intent", as a company devoted to finding a treatment becuase it will ease suffering, not to just make the fast dollar off of suffering. She wanted to do the Commendation, in the hopes that it will bring awareness to the company and what it is trying to do, and ultimately bring companies and organizations and people who are willing to support the company's goals, efforts and bring the treatment availability to those that need it as soon as possible.
She does quite a bit behind the scenes on this subject. She is a very intense person when you talk about this with her.
