You really believe Gov is going to voluntarily give up the goose that lays golden eggs?

Just to clarify this point because maybe its misunderstood... but since the letter agreement in Sep. 2019 to allow the GSEs to retain their profits, the government no longer gets any "golden eggs" and hasn't for almost 2 years now. The status quo as is has it so the government doesn't see a penny from the GSEs until they are released from conservatorship (to monetize the warrants and/or senior pfds).

Maybe the government doesnt care about ever seeing a penny from the GSEs again as long as they remain under government control.. or maybe one day they will seek to monetize ~$100b of equity value. Time will tell.
