What am I missing?????

Alport syndrome is estimated to affect approximately 1 in 5,000-10,000 people in the general population in the United States, which means that approximately 30,000-60,000 people in the United States have the disorder.

Can someone explain something to me. This is 100% of what RETA was being valued at? So let me get this straight. Analysts were valuing this stock all based on this one drug that approximately affects 60K people in the US and valued the company at 250 X 36.4M = 9 billion???? Then the drug doesn't go through and now the value is 1 billion. Please. Someone please for the love of Pete explain that to me.
