This morning NPR featured one of its business reporters to talk about inflation. One store owner featured in the report talked about how inflation would affect sales. I figure that fellow ought to know. He said a $5 shirt to goes to $6 wouldn't see a decline in sales. Folks will still be willing to pay $1 more. However, the item that was priced at $19.95 that now goes for $24.95 would see a decline in sales.

There is a lot of leeway between a $66 filet de mignon in the high end sit down joint and the $13 hamburger. There will be a point where the high end joint that gets some of its business from folks treating themselves to a high dollar restaurant experience will see a decline from that clientele.
