She was surprised by how many young African-American women were at risk for cardiovascular disease. "These women were obese, with diabetes or hypertension at really young ages, in their 30s," says Bower, who noticed that the women lived in unsafe neighborhoods, often with no parks, gyms, or supermarkets, where the convenience stores sold junk food.

Don't confuse cultural differences, income, and lack of nutritional guidance with race or racism.

First, she says, health care providers should not only talk with patients about what to eat but also recommend sources for healthy food in their neighborhoods. Second, community initiatives such as farmers markets and mobile food vans can help fill the gap.

Don't claim that generosity and free social services are attributes of white supremacy.

"Local policymakers should be looking at the quality of infrastructure in poor and minority neighborhoods to see if it could better support businesses,"

Andddddd we're back to this being mostly a poor neighborhood issue.

So all of us taxpayers and income earners OF ALL RACES are doing our best to provide decent food for our underprivileged citizens (and non-citizens). I know I do. Keep the parents from going hungry, but most importantly, give disadvantaged children the nutrition they need so they can do well in school, sports, and the arts. and stay in school. My county provided TWO FREE MEALS EVERY DAY (maybe even on weekends, I'm not sure) to underprivileged kids so they have the attention span and energy required for their school day. So to label this generosity as white supremacy is just plain wrong.
