I will absolutely NOT report anything not 1099'd, which most always means IRS will not have the report either. When someone gets the IRS letter, the biggest mistake they make is contesting it, UNLESS the letter is truly incorrect, and the payer would know that. The IRS also has offer and compromise when trying to collect tax, most USC's don't know that. You basically come to an agreement what you should pay, which is LESS that what they demand.
