I would imagine, like any respectable business owner, they would care about their reputation. If they sold a shell to a known felon with a shady background, the shareholders would be fucked, thus hurting them in the long run. Not only that, there are plenty of people that want to buy these shells. They were never desperate to get rid of it, it being their best structured shell and all.
