Medically: Crohns = oral to anal problem as opposed to UC which is a problem mostly for the colon. Both diseases have important manifestations outside the GI tract, involving other organs.

So would any immed release oral B reach the colon? We do not know.
Presumably some Crohns patients might benefit if the have more proximal disease- small intestine etc.

But the original thinking was that a sustained release prep would be necessary or there would never have been all that focus on finding the right formulation.

Again: this is a very big deal for the company.
