Why San Diego has a homelessness problem
MISSION BAY PARK ILLEGAL CAMPING BECOMES UNTOUCHABLE, AGAIN.
I will not devote the time this issue deserves as I have no idea how long before this post is removed or I am personally attacked for broaching this "polarizing" subject.

The first picture is of a San Diego Police Officer's phone with whom I spoke this morning. He reports he is leaving law enforcement and moving to Tennessee, "exhausted by the lunacy in this city." He is responsible for investigating each of the "tents" which represent complaints made about illegal camps, etc., made on Get it Done. He must contact each person with the resolution of his investigation. He is currently working on complaints made 9 WEEKS AGO. The shear volume even surprised me.

And then it gets more complicated and almost inconceivable.

1. After threatening the mayor, a group of advocates and lawyers, filed a suit against the city alleging that "individual's possessions are in fact private property and cannot be removed without their consent." You might be saying, "but they are on city property." I told you it was insane.

2. The most recent lawsuit filed within the past 2 weeks has forced environmental officers to discontinue posting 3 hour trash removal notices and now must allow 72 hours for residents to remove items from public property. The Catch 22 being that if the environmental officer who posted the notice is off the day it takes effect, absolutely nothing can happen and the process has to start over again.

3. Parks and Recreation's hauling contract is different than the one used by SDPD. It appears that, to further complicate this issue, neither service can work for the other agency. A simple bureaucratic snafu prevents anything from being done to remove trash, lawsuit notwithstanding.

4. The tent camp south of the boat ramp is still there and rapidly growing. The person I spoke with last week reported "I try to keep it clean, but last night we had two big birthday parties and the two kids that live in here are constantly messing things up." ?? this feel about right?

These recent events have effectively frozen SDPD and Parks and Recreation attempts at enforcement of existing laws. Pending lawsuits scare the city so nothing gets done.

I have also attached 2 comments (with the courtesy to redact the name) posted to another social platform (about ND users) by a frequent commentator about this subject on Nextdoor. This is an example of the anger expressed on these threads that are simply intended to solve problems for all impacted. No recourse is available from ND unless comments violate voluminous, arbitrary, and often contradictory guidelines.

I fully expect attacks, reports to ND, posts, and users removed by what I fear to be a subset of Nextdoor users who have created a world in which LOGIC AND REASON NO LONGER EXIST. Their attempt is to force the rest of humanity to live in that world as well. I cannot see how this solves problems but it is the world we currently live in.

Again, read fast cause posts just vanish quickly when the shooting starts.
