I don't know who your broker is, but with Etrade if you have stock that is no longer trading and is under a cusip you can call them ask them to remove it (I think you can even do it online but not sure). I have done it in the past. You declare it worthless. It will be listed on your 1099 and you can claim the loss. If it is listed as a cusip there is no ticker anymore. But if you can't remember which company it is just google the cusip number and you should be able to find the co name. You could also call your broker and just ask them what co that is under the cusip.
