1. negotiate a salary and employment agreement
2. get it in writing (and reviewed by an attorney)
3. make sure you are paid your salary IN CASH, preferably in advance
Don't substitute salary for vouchers, warrants, options, promises or such other worthless BS that might be presented to you
Apply sound judgment to your work and decision-making to minimize the risk of legal consequences (or worse)
