I worked with GeckoSystems for a while, they did obstacle avoidance that surpassed anything on the market by using AI sensor fusion. Unfortunately they got caught by the Big Apple and other stock fraudsters and were unable to raise enough money to bring the tech to market.

It gives me a better than the average layman's understanding of what AI can do for lasers, and it also makes me wonder if they are looking at sensor fusion to overcome the inherent weaknesses in LIDAR...

I've glanced AEye's patents and seen no indication of this, but it does seem like the ultimate solution still...

This is what they were able to do with off the shelf sensors many years ago. Note that this is not pre-mapped navigation.
